Fall color is officially starting to arrive, and the nursery is filling up with fresh plants for the season ahead.
Late summer is the perfect time to look around the garden and notice which areas could use a little lift. Maybe a container is looking tired, a perennial bed has a bare spot, or the front porch is ready for a seasonal refresh. A few new plants can make a surprisingly big difference.
Fresh Fall Annuals
If you want instant color, we just received a beautiful selection of cool-season and fall favorites.
Look for:
- Mums — the classic fall favorite in rich seasonal colors
- Asters — colorful, cheerful, and loved by late-season pollinators
- Pansies — perfect for containers, beds, and cooler weather
- Strawflower — colorful blooms with a unique papery texture
- Celosia — bold, feathery flowers in vibrant fall tones
- Marigolds — warm golds, oranges, and yellows that transition beautifully into autumn
Use them to freshen up porch pots, window boxes, garden beds, and entryways. Even replacing one or two tired summer plants can make a container feel completely new again.
Perennials That Shine in Late Summer & Fall
Some of the garden’s best performers are just getting started.
Our perennial selection is full of plants that bring late-season color, texture, and plenty of pollinator activity, including:
Anemones — airy pink and white blooms that add movement to the garden
Toad Lilies — unique, orchid-like flowers that are especially beautiful in shade
Sedums — both tall and low-growing varieties with excellent fall interest
Caryopteris — masses of blue flowers that bees absolutely love
Eupatorium — tall, airy blooms that are wonderful for pollinators
Hypericum — colorful flowers followed by decorative berries
Allium — bold flower heads that add shape and structure
Agastache — long-lasting blooms that attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds
Solidago — cheerful golden flowers that bring the garden into fall
Black-Eyed Susans — sunny yellow blooms that are tough, dependable, and quintessentially late summer
These are great choices for extending color beyond the peak of summer and helping the garden continue to feel full and lively well into fall.
Give the Garden One More Moment
By late August, it’s completely normal for parts of the garden to start looking a little tired. That doesn’t mean the season is over.
Add a mum or pansy to a container. Tuck a Black-Eyed Susan or sedum into a perennial bed. Add an anemone for soft late-season color or Caryopteris for a burst of blue.
You don’t have to redo the whole landscape.
Sometimes one fresh plant, one refreshed container, or one newly filled garden corner is all it takes to make everything feel exciting again.
Fall is one of the most beautiful times to garden, and we’re just getting started.
Stop by and find your fall color while the selection is fresh!
